This week has been a great week here
in the mission field. The work is Hastening as we now have continued to be
blessed with more investigators both from members and through our own efforts.
Of course the highlight of the week was skyping home and being able
to wish my mommy a happy mothers day and to see the whole family. Thanks to
Apple's brilliant technology of Facetime, i was able to have a crystal clear
video of my family on one of the member's iPad. Our family looks really good
when you look at them through an iPad. If you don't believe me, try it. They
look good. :)
Anyway.. We were able to add 2 new
investigators this week. We were super excited about that because we have been
struggling to find people for a long time. That lady named Rowena i talked
about last week came to church on Sunday and we were able to set up a time this
week to go over and teach her. She is reading parts of the Book of Mormon and i
think she has tons of potential. The other guy we found is named Matthew. We
saw him bringing his trash cans in from the curb so we started talking to him.
He is Indian from the little corner of India that is Christian, making up only
3% of the whole population. There are sooo many Eastern Indian people
here in Folsom working at Intel and almost every time they are Hindu, tell us a
little about their Lord Krishna, then shut the door. But Matthew actually
listened to what we had to say and invited us back to learn more. Please pray
for both of them to accept our message and to feel the spirit. :)
We had a service opportunity as a
zone and were able to go to one of the senior citizen homes in Folsom and take
them on a walk to the Folsom Zoo. It was a great experience to serve those poor
elderly people who only go outside like once a year. I was with a lady named
Kate, and as we would go from animal to animal she would throw her hands up in
excitement and yell how much she loved it. Not only was it fun, but it was a
good way to be seen out in the community. Others came up and asked
"Why?" or "Who are you with?" It was a great chance to
share what we are here to do as missionaries and to show that we are just here
to help others.
I went on an exchange with the
district leader this week. He came to my area and biked around with me. He is
usually in a car so it took him a little bit to get used to the bike. I guess
he never really got used to it because after an hour and a half he flipped over
his handlebars and crashed quite hard, taking chunks of skin off his hands and
spraining his wrist. It's too bad I didnt have a go pro on the back of my
Helmet because it would have been such a great video. Personally i think he
just didnt want to bike the hills. Just kidding.. He is fine now though.. so
it's all good.
On sunday Elder Dorff and I taught
the Young Women so the leaders could to go relief society. It was my second time
teaching young womens and the first time they wouldnt talk at all when i asked
a question. So this time i got smart by bringing in candy to give them whenever
they answered a question, and a couple of pictures of my mom/family to show
while i talked about mothers for mothers day. There was lots of candy flying
everywhere, and lots of attempts of trying to sneak snapchats of us while we
were teaching. It went quite well.
Yesterday we volunteered at
the AMGEN Bike Tour of California. Apparently it is a really big
deal, Like the Tour de France of America. I guess there was a bunch of world
class bikers there, and some not so world class bikers there. They all looked
the same in their super tight spandex bikers outfits. The event was a lot of
fun and good exposure for missionaries. We were the security peoples checking
everyone's bags for alcohol and weapons as they walked in. It was pretty hot in
slacks and a t shirt standing and checking bags but it was still a good
time. That is also why today is our Pday. So yeah. Go biking.
I am so grateful for my mom. She is
the greatest mom in the world. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for
her. I am also so grateful for my Savior. I am going to be leaning on him a
whole lot this upcoming week as i am biking up our hills in the 100 degree
weather this week. In Ether 12 it says he will make weak things become strong.
I will be weak. so i guess by the end of the week i will either have a gnarly 6
pack and crazy big arms, or i will have a testimony the size of the brother of
Jared. so we will see. Either way, I am so grateful for the Book of Mormon. I
love holding it in my hands. That blue book is such a good looking one. If you
haven't read it, read it. Spoiler alert: It will bring eternal salvation.
