This week is transfers, and
we found out last night that Elder Ooi and I will be staying together in
Georgetown for another 6 weeks. At the moment we don't really know what we are
going to do all transfer to stay busy, but we will figure something out. We
have some potential in this area that we really want to work will.
This past week was a pretty
enjoyable one. It was conference weekend, how could it not be amazing? The
beginning of the week was a little hard when Maureen called us and said that
her husband decided to come home after being separated for a while. She said
that he wouldn't be happy with us meeting with her, so she is “putting us on the
back burner.” It was quite be bummer hearing that, but as missionaries there
isnt much you can do in those situations. We just encouraged her to keep
reading from the Book of Mormon, and to watch as much of General Conference and
she could. Her friend let us know that she did watch a little bit and enjoyed
many talks, so hopefully she will work things out with her husband and desire
to come into the fold of God.
During the Sunday morning
session we went to the Johnston's house and watched it with them. Throughout the
session they would pause it, ask us questions, and then keep watching. Because
they are new to the church, there were a lot of things they weren't familiar
with. It was good being able to be there for them to answer their questions.
The kids even behaved really well which was quite amazing. Elder Bednar's talk
was so on point for missionary work. I want to show it to everyone. Also, the
MTC missionary choir during the Priesthood session was amazing. If you didn't
get to see them, watch it. They were so powerful. It might just be because I am
a missionary too, but I loved it.
On Friday we met at the
mission office where we got to watch Meet the Mormons before it comes out to
theaters. EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO SEE IT THIS WEEKEND!!! It is amazing. Take your
friends and family. Especially if they are not members of our church. It shows
how we really aren't crazy people. We have normal lives. The church did such a
great job with it. The church is giving all the proceeds to the Red Cross, so
if you buy a ticket you are just donating. How cool is that? A warning for
mothers with sons on missions though.. (Especially my mom..) bring a box of
tissues because you will use every single one during the last 15 minutes when
it talks about the missionary mom. :) It even got a lot of the missionaries in
the room tearing up. Including me.
This week we went on an
adventure up to some less active members that live really close to where the
fire was. Because we were already up there, we decided to drive a mile further
into where the fire and burned. It was sad seeing all the trees black, some of
which were still smoking. It is a miracle though that it didnt burn any of the
houses in our area. This past week they were able to get it 100% contained
after it burned for 3 weeks, and kept it away from the houses. Props to the
firefighters up here. When I first got here in Georgetown I sent a picture of a
beautiful lake called Stumpy Meadows. The fire went through there so I took
another picture of what it looks like now. Luckily it doesn't look too terrible.
We had quite the adventure up there.
Question of the day: Why is
October the 10th month instead of the 8th month? I
thought Oct means 8? Octagon, Octapella (Yay for approved missionary music),
Octopus? Just something to think about. :)
Elder Ooi decided to kill
flies in our room using a lighter and his axe body spray. Axe + lighter =
torch. And dead flies. I guess he didn't realize we just had a massive forest
fire. Silly missionaries.
Well, if you didn't get to
watch all of conference, watch it. If you don't plan on seeing Meet the Mormons
this weekend, change your plans. If you aren'
t looking for people you can share
the gospel with, rethink what you are doing in life. And don't you ever forget
that Elder Black loves you. :)
