We had a good week this week. It was a very smokey week
though. Turns out when there is a big fire in your area that has burned over
87,000 acres, there is lots of smoke. The King fire is basically all that
people have talked about this week. It has been pretty crazy though. We have
had a chunk of our area evacuated because of the fire, making it hard for us to
bring those people the gospel. We did do quite a bit of service for people
though. I am so sick of breathing smoke. I dont know why you would ever want to
voluntarily smoke and feel like this all the time. We had had thick smoke all
week long.
When i first got to Georgetown i sent pictures of a
beautiful lake called Stumpy Meadows Reservoir. Sadly that burned down this
week. I was actually pretty sad when i found out because it is so cool up
there. It is a bummer. But hey, the fire gave us something to talk about with
everyone. We would try lots of different ways to tie it into the gospel.
Destruction before second coming, Baptism by Fire, stuff like that.
We did a blitz in three wards this week. It was fun getting
together with all the missionaries in the district and helping them find people
to teach. On one of them i was able to talk to a guy that is getting ready to
move to Alpine. We had a nice chat and i got to tell him all about Alpine and
how he is moving to Zion. :)
I gave my first baptismal interview while in a different
ward. It was a cool experience to interview a man that has been working for so
long to make the steps necessary to grow closer to his Savior, then tell him
that he is able to make that step to be baptized.
Our Elders Quorum President likes to go tracting on his own.
Do you do that? Didnt think so. He is a very unique man, and loves the gospel
enough to go out and talk to everyone about it! He may look like a JW when he
does it, but i guess he is trying at least! We were able to go out with him
this week and meet a few people that he has talked with. What a swell
man.
As a ward we repaired the fences at the city park up here.
There was a farmers market going on at the other side of the park so everyone
would walk by and tell us how grateful they were for what we were doing. It was
a great opportunity to get a positive feel for the church in the community.
While we were their our Ward Mission Leader gashed his arm. This man is a
retired Warden, champion wrestler, and the kindest man you will ever meet.
Someone else had to point out to him that he had blood gushing down his arm and
asked how he didnt notice it. He just chuckled and said, "I Don't feel
pain :)." It was awesome. He is a stud.
I havent burned down yet. So that is good. Only part of my
area has burned down, so we still have some places to work, and we see fire
crews cruising all over our roads. So life is good.
