This week was transfers and I am staying in Folsom for
another transfer! I am really excited to stay here for another transfer and
work with Elder Kahne to
baptize!
We had a great lesson with Alvin this week. The spirit was
really strong, and he was understanding the things that we were teaching him.
We have now taught him the 3 major lessons, and he has actually been thinking
of baptism. He has asked if he can be baptized LDS and still be Catholic
because he feels like he is betraying his Catholic ancestors. We invited him to
pray about church and baptism, and told him that this is what his ancestors
want for him. Because he is really into family history, we have been able to
incorporate that in showing him why it is so important that he is baptized and
prepares for the temple. As we were leaving, the member randomly asked him how
work has been, and informed him that if he needed any help with retirement,
they could help him out. It was completely out of the blue, and Alvin's mind
was blown. It turns out he has been thinking about it for a long time and
really been needing help. We were able to show him that it was the spirit that
put that impression in the members mind. We are going back this week to see how
his praying is going, and to invite them to baptism :)
We also went over and helped Alvin organize some of his
geneology research. By the end we basically had an entire history lesson on the
Philippians (Shout out to Desi Guerrero for being Filipino). It was fun
spending time with him and getting to know about his ancestors.
We are trying a new thing called Survey Tracting. It's been
a great way to improve the normal worthless tracting approach. This gives us a
chance to actually talk with people, get an understanding of their beliefs, and
show how we have similar beliefs. If any of you out there are trying to tract..
Try doing a survey of their beliefs. It works :)
